Back in Stock Subject Lines, Tested in Claude Desktop

Updated June 2026 · Hosted email MCP server

Restock alerts only convert if the inbox sells the moment. With marginal connected to Claude Desktop, you can draft back in stock subject lines, ship a real subject line A/B test, and read the winner — all without leaving the chat window.

Why back in stock emails need their own subject line test

Restock messages have urgency built in, but that urgency is easy to waste. Some subscribers respond to scarcity ("Almost gone again"), others to plain confirmation ("Your size is back"). Guessing which framing wins for your list leaves revenue on the table.

A subject line A/B test settles it with data instead of intuition. marginal handles the send and the tracking, so you measure open and click lift across variants rather than arguing about which line sounds better.

How the workflow runs inside Claude Desktop

Once marginal is configured as an email MCP server, Claude Desktop can call its tools directly. You describe the restock — the product, the audience, the tone — and the agent does the mechanical work of variant generation and launch.

The four tools map cleanly to a back in stock workflow:

An example back in stock prompt

In Claude Desktop you might type: "A popular hoodie just restocked. Generate five back in stock subject lines — two urgency-driven, two reassuring, one playful — then launch a subject line test to my restock-waitlist segment."

Claude calls generate_variants and launch_test through marginal, then reports back when results are ready. Ask "which subject line is winning?" a day later and it runs get_results, summarizing lift so you can lock in the winner or let recommend_next suggest the next round.

Getting marginal connected

marginal is a hosted MCP server, so there's nothing to deploy. Point Claude Desktop at https://marginal.sh/mcp, add your Bearer API key (the marg_live_ token from your account), and the AI agent email marketing tools appear in your session.

The free tier covers 100 experiments per month, which is plenty for testing back in stock subject lines across recurring restocks. Setup details and tool references live in the docs.
